One in ten webpages now shows signs of AI authorship, Pew finds

Pew Research found that about one in ten webpages shows signs of AI authorship, a trend with implications for trust in Christian online content and publishing.

Pew Research examined nearly half a million English-language webpages collected from the past five years and ran them through an AI detection tool. It found that about one in ten pages from July 2026 showed signs of being written or substantially edited by AI. This matters for Christian media organisations that publish devotional content, articles or resources online, since readers increasingly cannot easily tell whether a text was produced by a person or a machine. It also raises a practical question for churches and ministries about how their own online material is perceived, and whether transparency about AI use in content production becomes an expectation rather than a choice.
