Dutch paper finds a fifth of opinion pieces written by AI, a caution for church voices in print

A Dutch study found a fifth of newspaper opinion submissions were AI written, a finding relevant to churches and faith voices that rely on op-eds to reach public debate.

Research by news platform AI Report found that 49 of 252 opinion pieces published in five major Dutch newspapers over one month were fully AI generated, with another 57 partly so. Editors at the papers involved reacted with unease, and some said they now intend to review how such submissions are checked. Church leaders, theologians and Christian commentators regularly submit opinion pieces to national papers to reach a wider public. If newsrooms tighten scrutiny of authorship or grow wary of submitted opinion generally, that could affect how easily faith perspectives find space in mainstream print debate.
