Podcast makers shift to video and direct listener payment, a model some Christian shows already use

Podcast industry speakers describe a shift towards video and listener funding, models already familiar to many Christian media producers reliant on donor support.

Speakers at Radiodays Asia described a shift away from traditional ad-funded audio podcasts towards video clips, branded content and direct listener payment. One example cited is a Japanese history podcast funded entirely by listener and corporate payments rather than advertising. New tools were also announced to support video distribution across podcast apps. For Christian media producers, many of whom already rely on donor or listener support rather than advertising, this points to models already familiar to the sector gaining wider traction elsewhere. It also signals that video and short clips, not just audio feeds, are becoming central to how podcast content reaches audiences.
