Funding drive aims to build young readers' trust in local news, a question churches share

A £100,000 grant will fund local news subscriptions for young readers, raising a question also facing Christian media: how to build lasting trust with younger audiences.

Mill Media, a UK local news publisher operating across several cities, has received £100,000 from the Postcode Lottery to fund 1,150 subscriptions for readers aged 16 to 25. The funding is intended to help young people build a habit of reading trusted, professionally reported journalism rather than relying solely on social platforms. Christian media organisations face a similar challenge in reaching younger audiences who have grown up without a habit of paying for or trusting institutional content. The initiative is a secular media story, but its underlying question, how to earn young people’s trust and attention in a crowded information environment, is one Christian publishers and churches also contend with.
