NPR's shift to video mirrors a wider move away from audio-only formats

NPR's reported move toward video reflects a broader shift in news formats that Christian media organisations built on audio may also need to consider.

NPR, long known for audio journalism, is reportedly adapting its output for a video-first media environment. The move reflects a broader pattern among news and media organisations shifting resources from audio to video formats. For Christian media producers who built audiences through radio or podcasts, the trend raises questions about whether similar adaptation is needed to reach audiences where they now spend time. It also signals that distribution platforms, not just content, are reshaping how organisations plan their output.

Separately, ECMS 2026 found that 52 per cent of respondents use streaming or on demand platforms for Christian content, a comparable shift toward screen-based formats, though the two findings are not directly linked.
